Leadership Education Uganda
In March of 2007, Dr. Christopher Mugimu, a native statesmen of Mukono, Uganda, visited George Wythe University expressing interest in Leadership Education. Meghan Schulthies, a George Wythe master's candidate, heard him speak and decided to "be the change" and help implement Leadership Education in their society. She traveled to Uganda and within a few weeks LEU was established. The mission of LEU is to mentor a generation of teachers who build statesmen through leadership education. Ugandan society is structured in such a way that makes teachers, rather than parents, the tipping point for impact. Their educational system consists mainly of boarding schools. From a young age children spend only three months out of the year at home making their teachers the primary influence during the Core and Love of Learning Phases. LEU conducts teacher training classes in leadership methodologies using students, graduates and associates of George Wythe University. LEU began with one mentor teaching eight teachers in two schools. In less than one year the program has grown to include 10 mentors teaching 160 teachers in 8 schools.
